One of the major
challenges facing a municipality once they obtain GIS data, is being able to
utilize that data. Using IVS's Municipal GIS Toolkit, a town can quickly
and easily start using new and existing GIS data. This interface allows non-
technical users to access and query multiple databases, such as your grand list,
zoning and parcels. It also allows for fast location of specific parcels based on
name, address, or parcel-ID. Abutter notifications can be created on-the-fly in
minutes.
The toolkit is primariy
made up of 3 compenents. The first one is called the Dataset Manager. This tool
allows users to load up GIS datasets via a simple point and click interface. A user
doesn't need to know specific file names and directory structures to gain access to GIS
datasets. The use of this tool also allows for a uniform mapping structure throughout a
municipality.
The second major component, the Parcel Locator Tool, allows the user to quickly
locate parcels of interest. These parcels are located via linking the parcel GIS
layer with the Town's grand list. This linkage is performed seamlessly via the
Dataset Manager. You can locate parcels by owner name or parcel ID.
The final major tool in the Municipal GIS is the Abutter Notification Tool. Using
this, you can very quickly create an abutter notification. The data is up-to-date, as
the parcel data is reading the current grand list file. Abutters are identified
automatically by the GIS, and you then have the option to interactively add or remove abutters
simply by clicking on the appropriate parcels on the screen. The abutter notification
is then generated based on the highlighted parcels.
